Oman, on November 18^th celebrates National Day. On the main roads in Muscat flags are erected and festive street lighting is switched on. Since this is also H.M. Sultan Qabooses birthday there celebrations are both for him as a ruler who has enabled the country to develop so remarkably and as a person who has the respect and affection of so many people.

It used to be that it was possible to tell the state of the economy by how many kilometers of flags and lights were erected. However, over the last few years I have the impression that they are only erected on key routes.

So Oman has much to celebrate today and 'Inshallah' (God willing)  much to look forward to as well.
