The Omani Society for Fine Arts opened today an exhibition by H.H. Sayyida Latifah Al Said. Entitled, “Where we Walked”. The paintings cover a geographically wide area, from IndoChina through to Europe, via of course Oman. Utilising different media from Pen through to Oil Sayyida Latifah creates an extraordinary range of subjects.

I was especially interested in Jerash – where I also had walked with a piece of Oman, a large nail from the Sur Dhow Yards. Inserted between the sections in columns at theTemple of Artemis the nail was so long (perhaps 10inches) that it was possible to see the movement as the column swayed.

Though each painting by Latifah Al Said of course has its own special merits, I was delighted to have been able to photo her painting of “The Lute”, which has been presented to UNESCO, as it refers to a memorable concert on the Arab Oud I enjoyed a few weeks ago in Al Bustan.

The New Art Galleries in Oman will certainly be looking to feature her works in the future.
